This is a very tolerant mama bird... we couldn't have been the first ones to snap a ton of photos of her beautiful family. Judging by the other nests nearby, this isn't the first time either. I guess humans are less risk than having a nest outside of the shelter. It renews my faith in humanity a bit :-)
They like skylights in their shelters in this section of trail. At leas in this shelter they have notes telling you which ones leak and which ones have been recently fixed.
An interesting section of trail that skirts a cliff. The cliff has a lot of water running and dripping down the sides, making for some slippery rocks but pretty trail.
An old shelter, right by the road. It probably didn't take long for trail builders to realize that shelters close to roads are generally not a great idea. Their low barrier to entry tend to provide a wilderness party area for non-backpacking folks.
