@hammerhead enjoying a hiking-afternoon respite from his building project - exploring a new trail with me in the Cape Mabou Highlands, Cape Breton. We purchased a map of the trails at the Mabou Freshmart store. Though the trails were well-marked the guide was very helpful to see where we were in relation to the whole area. https://www.capemabouhiking.com
After familiarizing myself with the nearest town for buying groceries and gas, I walked The Landing Trail along the Southside Antigonish Harbour. I watched these ducks floating on a log, a Mom and her little girl trying to snag butterflies in her net, met a couple avid photographers visiting from out of province - a lovely flat 4K hike.
The selling point of our weekend at this provincial park, less than two hours from home, was its miles of beaches and beautiful woods and rocky, interesting shorelines. It had nice camping spots in the trees (maybe not private enough, as some fav drinks were stolen from our coolers- first time ever!), adequate washrooms although the outdoor biffys needed some maintenance. A treat was hearing the seals groaning and 'talking' at night in our tent - and paddling with them in their 'pool'.
