New Feature: We Now Have a Privacy Policy

Ok, so maybe having a privacy policy isn't the stellar new feature you were waiting for. It is, however, a legal requirement that needs to be met before we can take things much farther.

Privacy policies are a pesky little detail. It's not that I don't think a privacy policy is important, it's just that they aren't easy to produce, especially considering that I am not a lawyer and don't have the finances to pay one (yet). Since having a privacy policy is required by law, and has the potential to be legally binding, it isn't something that I want to take lightly. Pulling a free one off the web and doing a search/replace of the names does not sit well with me.

There's an App for That

Thankfully there are companies who use legal teams to help design and produce privacy policy software. All you have to do is fill out a form, check some boxes, and before you know it you have a privacy policy tailor-made for your business. If you use a company who hosts that privacy policy for you, then you also get the added benefit of regular updates to the policy as the laws evolve. A software based solution to a legal problem - being a geek, that is something I understand and can get behind.

After doing a little research, I decided to go with a company called iubenda, based out of Italy. They have a nice, easy to use interface, and they make it very easy to integrate the end result with a website. One feature I like is that if/when Outsideways becomes an International concern, iubenda will be able to provide my privacy policy in multiple languages. Since both the great outdoors and the Internet are worldwide phenomenons, it isn't a stretch to think that Outsideways could exist in multiple languages one day.

Sleep Better

So, if you haven't seen it yet, here is our newly minted privacy policy. If you care about those things, then by all means check it out and let me know what you think. If it doesn't really matter to you, at least one of us will sleep better knowing that Outsideways is now meeting it's legal requirements.
