Welcome to Outsideways v2.0

Today is the day! We have officially launched Outsideways version 2.0. Actually, technically it is a pseudo version 3.0. You see, before Outsideways ever existed there was a site called Adventure in Progress, which eventually became Outsideways version 1. And for any of you who have been around long enough to remember (or care), a side project was spun off of Adventure in Progress called Toe Salad (which is a name I have since adopted as my trail name). OK, enough of the history lesson...

This re-launch represents a significant departure for Outsideways. Instead of being a personal blog that chronicles our thoughts and stories on outdoor adventuring, it is now a community. A place where outdoor adventurers from all over the world can hang out and journal the cool stuff they are doing. Rather than repeating myself and explaining how it all works here, I will refer you to the about page.

I have put a lot of work into this, and truthfully I am both excited, and nervous. What happens if nobody shows up? What if it crashes and burns under immense traffic because everyone has decided to leave Facebook and come here instead?

Before joining (you are going to join right?), there are a few things you should know:

  • This is custom software, written by me. It's not something you just get off the shelf and voila, instant social network. It is being lovingly crafted and finely tuned with the express purpose of being totally awesome. Consider this to be beta, which means there are almost certainly going to be bugs. If you find a bug, PLEASE let me know. I will fix it. I promise.
  • I have way more features planned. This is just the first step. If you have ideas as to how I could make this even more totally awesome, then I want to hear about them. Also, if you think something sucks, I want to hear about that too - things that suck aren't allowed here.
  • If you miss the old articles, don't fret, they are still around, but have been archived here.

So, welcome to Outsideways, I hope you like what we have done with the place. Tell all your outdoorsy friends to come and hang out with us!
