Day Hikes - 2018

Christmas day walk in the woods at Plein air Sutton, QC. Mid-afternoon sunshine reaching through the trees added a warm glow on a nippy cold day.

@hammerhead and I packed snowshoes along to our Christmas family get-away in Sutton, Quebec. Sadly some rainy and warmer weather (similar to what happened to ours in Nova Scotia) melted and/or polished the trails. We were still able to hike and thankfully our trekking poles helped keep us upright. I joined a group of hikers from Digby, NS -called the Fundy Erratics. Some of them followed the suggestion to wear rubber boots...which I didn't and kept moving quickly to keep the mud from slurping into my shoes without trying to get a photo of my 'beach walk'. After finishing the beach hike - Medford Beach, Paddy's Island - two friends and I stopped and did a short Ravine Hike near Kentville, NS - just because we had time before we had to drive home! I love having kindred hiking friends who like to see and do as much as you have time for! Unknown to us until we got on the trail, a partially frozen waterfall was at the turnaround. A grand day to be outsideways!!

We saw a Cub Scout group and their leaders plus a three-some during the short time we were on this hike - which is basically right in 'town' - https://valleyconnect.cioc.ca/record/TOK0006 - called the Agricultural Research Station Nature Trail. What a perfect get-away spot for a short walk in the woods.

Blomidon Provincial Park is the point you see off in the distance. This is one hike totally determined by the tides: the world's highest, here in New Minas Basin and Bay of Fundy.

Paddlers experienced with tides and currents would probably take on the challenge of trying to paddle through this hole at "just the right time'!!

Following a week of wet weather, pre-Christmas preparation and work commitments Saturday Dec 15th was a gift day to join about 20 other hikers for a Medford Beach and Paddy's Island trek.

What we see here is Paddy's Island - which is only visible when the tide is all the way out. Very cool experience -

Even with a bit of breeze off the water, it was warm enough you could have stopped for a snack - except for a lack of anywhere to sit! Amazing trek - wanted to take photos of every angle - so thankful for the blue sky!
