Premier point de vue au sommet des hollandais. La vue n'est pas très dégagée mais ça fait une belle fenêtre sur la nature. Il y a deux bancs. On en profite pour faire une pause.

On grimpe. On grimpe. Il fait très très chaud. Mes 2 litres d'eau vont-ils suffire ?

Must have a summit photo! It was pretty crowded at the top, being a Saturday with good weather and clear skies...saw a marriage proposal with engagement ring and tears and cheers - that was cool. Took us four hours to summit - had a half hour lunch break and then another 3 3/4 hours down, which overall was better than we anticipated.

Apparently the Abol trail route is the shortest - and the steepest. Correct - lots of looking way up. Started at 7:30, had a beautiful day - hot and sunny, great for views with a little bit of breeze once in a while.

Three friends - Shelley, Nancy, Janice - and me (left to right) all live in Lunenburg County, NS, Canada. On a hike with Shelley about three months ago she told me that hiking Katahdin has been on her bucket list since High School so I jumped in to help her make it happen! Great fun.

Well, the terrain is pretty flat, the water is pretty alkaline and the road walk felt pretty endless. We put in a 28.5mile day so we could do a shorter day into town. It was our longest day yet, and left us all pretty tired. But, we are pushing through the miles, so hopefully we can get through the Basin pretty quick. We are stuck in Rawlins today waiting for a package, but hopefully we can push on tomorrow. I'm excited for northern Wyoming, so hopefully we can get there soon!

The first day out of Encampment was much greener than I expected. And the bonus of a flatter landscape, is that it leaves you feeling like you can see into the future. Those views are wide open.

Well, we made it to Wyoming!!

I have to say, crossing the border of Colorado and Wyoming felt like a pretty big milestone. We are slowly getting to Canada, which feels awesome. Here's hoping we can make it the rest of the way!
