My parents were born and raised in a small town in northern California, and after living for some years in a southern California beach town, they retired and moved across the country to the foothills of South Carolina, very close to North Carolina. When we go visit them, we enjoy some mild outdoor adventure, most of it up in North Carolina.

The trail up to Chimney Rock is full of stairs through the trees - or you can take an elevator! We took the stairs, of course.

East Coast hiking is so lush - like in Thailand too - it's just that my whole life was spent hiking and backpacking the dry California wilderness, so the green elsewhere is such a feast for my eyes!
