As we are making our gear list for the PCT, we are deciding which pieces of gear were our favorite from our AT hike and which pieces we quickly shed from our packs.
What I consider the most important piece of gear is, a tent. That is my home through all the weather, my place away from bugs, sun, and rain. During our thru-hike we enjoyed the luxury of the Nemo Obi 3p for the two of us. We spent various zero and Nero days (hiking very few miles) huddled in our tent together, sharing meals, laughter, and stories.
On the Appalachian Trail we came to be the 'late sleepers', often not getting out of our tent until 10-11AM, while most other hikers had already hiked more than half their days miles. I couldn't resist staying in the tent with the sun shining in, warming my tired body.
Our Nemo tent gave me a little piece of home.
