A long-abandoned husk of a house. A pair of Belgians we ran into today told us the Highlands have a blemish on their history, when the clan leaders or landowners drove their people off their land and burned their houses in order to make more money by herding sheep. I'll have to look into this some more.
That will be the Highland clearances you were hearing about! Definitely a blemish on Scotlands history! It was land owners who displaced the crofters and it was a time when many perished and lots of highlanders (who could) emigrated.
