While my parents dry out their gear from last nights rain @toesalad pitches our home for the night.

Cooper lodge has seen better days. But we finally reached the top of Killington. One of the most significant mountains on the southern section of the Long Trail.

Leaving snack break at Governor Clement Shelter. And now we really climb.

So much of the trail today was just gorgeous! I just loved it.

@toesalad @hammerhead @karentogo banging down apples. Today we hiked along the edges of fields, so picturesque, and enjoyed some crunchy, tart apples.

Day 10

I don’t have Guthook’s app on my phone (@toesalad has it on his phone, we couldn’t download to my phone for some reason) and I don’t carry the map. This is my dad’s GMC map of the Long Trail and this is the image of today’s hike from Clarendon Shelter to Cooper lodge at Killington. A long climb.

@toesalad and @hammerhead making supper for their respective wives and hiking partners. About an hour after this photo, just after we cleaned up supper and hung bear bags we got a downpour. First rain in 4 or 5 days. We’re both tenting tonight, so I hunkered down in tent, listening to rain, writing today’s journal entries. Now I’ll walk the phone over to my parents tent, who are without books or podcasts, and let them listen to a podcast on my phone to pass the last hour of the day. We’ll all be lights out by 8:30.

These legs. They get me places for sure and I appreciate how the compression sleeves help my knees and theoretically my Achilles (hard to say on that) but they are uncomfortable in the heat like today and hurt me behind the knees. Will I ever win?
