Making breakfast and coffee in the tent vestibule, the start of day 7.

The view of camel’s Hump from Notch Road in Bolton just before we head into the woods to find and make camp for the night.

5:30 in the afternoon and we’re back into the woods after a great town stay. And after a day of clouds and rain we’re happy to see the sun.

Day six: Town stop and resupply in Waterbury and Stowe. We weren’t planning on going to Stowe but I needed new shoes.

So we travelled from our accommodations in Waterbury to Stowe, hitching a ride during the pouring rain.

Bought shoes, camp fuel from this hardware store (only in Vermont are hardware stores this cute) and ate burritos and fries for lunch at Ranch Camp, all while it rained.

Then we hitched back to Waterbury, got our groceries at Shaw’s and while we were packing our food bags outside the store a man offered us a ride to the trail.

That’s 4 hitches in one town stay. Off the trail and into town the night before. Up to Stowe and back, and back out to the trail.

Just about to exit Sara Holbrook floodplain forest and hitch a ride into Waterbury. 50 miles in 4.5 days of hiking, the hardest part of the Long Trail (northbound) so far. Also very beautiful and rewarding. Satisfied, happy and a bit sore... time for a short break.

Down in the valley now. The trail goes along the valley floor a bit to get to the Winooski footbridge. For a couple miles you walk along a road and then farmland. Passed some free range hens (there was a fence not in photo).

Will be hitching a ride this afternoon on route 2 for an overnight and resupply in Waterbury.

South and higher up from Bamforth Ridge Shelter, on more exposed rock ledges. Way off to the west you can see the Adirondacks.
