Going back even before Thanksgiving of 2016, I began to plan a very adventurous 2017. My plan was to begin at the end of February hiking the 78 mile Foothills Trail in the upstate of South Carolina. I had several other larger hikes planned including sections of the AT, all while working around a daughter graduating college and getting married this spring.
Notice that I said MY plan. It seems God had other plans in mind. On January third of this year I found out I had neck cancer. Considering I have never been a smoker, I was a little surprised. Fortunately, I caught it early before it had spread. On January 19th, I had my first surgery and have another scheduled for February 10th. Once that is complete I will have to undergo six weeks of radiation. I have a great prognosis and confidence in the medical team I am working with. I have the best support in the world from my wife, family and church.
Just so you know, I have not given up on my plans, they are just delayed.
