Hike #2 of our 2016 Montana trip: Today the weather was going to be potentially sketchy at higher elevations, so we decided to try something a little more sheltered. We did a 10 mile hike (5 miles out-and-back) on the West Boulder Trail, which follows the West Boulder River and passes through the West Boulder Meadows in the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
This picture totally does not do these wildflowers any justice. @reneetougas tells me flowers never photograph well in bright sunlight. If you want better pretty flower pictures, check out her journal instead.
The West Boulder Trail follows along the West Boulder River. On a hot day (like today) there is plenty of opportunities to cool off in the water, which is numbingly cold. There seems to be a bit of a post forest fire theme happening in these Montana hikes...
