It's my goal to use our Mazda CX-9 as a "camper" for trips, outings, and adventures where it's either difficult to tent or is simply preferable or desirable to have a "camp" vehicle option.
I'm not going to convert our compact SUV into a camper with any permanent changes. We are a one car family and that car gets a lot of use hauling people (family of five, with 3 young adult kids - so basically 5 adults), hauling groceries for all those people, and hauling gear and sundry for adventures and family life.
I love the versatility of this vehicle to meet the needs of our family life (which have included road trips and long drives with 5 people and a cat). But as the kids have grown and are my husband and I do more couple-only and solo adventuring it occurred to me that I could also use the this car as a camper vehicle, laying down the seats creates ample space for 2 of us to sleep.
So now I'm on a mission to test and trial our car as a camper, figuring out what kind of modifications/additions and gear we need to convert our car, on a temporary basis only, into a camper vehicle.
This is a journal of that figuring out process and the trips we do with our car as the camper.
