The trail went through a seagull nesting zone - there was no way to circumvent the area. We apologized to the upset mamas screeching and dive-bombing us for being so close to their nests.
There were nests 'everywhere'!! Some were holding 3 eggs. A Dad and his young son on their ATV - thankfully not parked right in the midst of the mayhem of screeching mamas - saw a couple baby chicks. Talked later with a couple who have a cabin a few kilometres away: he grew up in the area and 'back in the poor days as a kid' they ate the eggs. They would mark them in the nest, and then check the nest later and fetch the ones that weren't marked!! I guess an egg is an egg is an egg :)
