Day 38 - Roan High Knob Shelter to Doll Flats
13.3 miles
Today was beautiful and difficult, lots to see and experience.
Walked the rocky path down Roan, crossed Carvers Gap and onto the balds, which afforded beautiful views.
Ate breakfast on Round Bald. Then hiked Jane & Grassy Ridge Bald. Filled water will GoFar and Wings. The trees were still bare here. Went to check out Overmountain Shelter, very cool location. Would be cool to sleep here.
I bonked after that. Maybe it was the heat and I didn't eat enough? It made for a weary walk to our next break. Filled up on chocolate granola before hiking up Hump Mountain. Listened to Skillet with Tenacious Bling and Otter to get us up and over that one.
I felt better at that point. We hiked down into Doll Flats, beautiful views: meadows, the valley, farmlands. I do love Tennessee.
Camped with Mary Poppins, two other men, and some section hikers. We're eating up all our food since we're resupplying tomorrow. We tried to watch the Hobbit tonight in the Hilleberg on the laptop but it was too loud for the camp. Watching movies is not something I imagined doing on the AT.
Read some email, got stressed out about arrangements to be made for our life in the real world. Going to bed now.
It was a beautiful day with lots of ups and downs, literally and emotionally.
