The terrain and vegetation there is so different from anything I am used to, I am sure it must have felt quite foreign the first time you experienced it.

Yes, very different. The part I am not used to is that you can't just go out on a trail on your own and go backpacking like in north america. The wilderness areas here are accessible mostly by hiring a guide from a local hill-tribe who basically machetes his way through the area! There truly are wild tigers, various snakes and centipedes, leeches, and other wildlife that I am not used to as well, so I am okay with hiring a guide!. We plan to book a couple of those kinds of trips next year, can't wait.

I would be totally OK with a guide in those conditions too :-) I would imagine that they aren't as expensive as North American guides either. I am looking forward to following those adventure when you guys have them!
