My wish was granted to be able to snowshoe on a weekend away to Cape Breton, NS, Canada. February 3rd our hike on Warren Lake Trail had plenty of snow, sunshine, minus 9C with a brisk wind. Loved it!
After a couple of weeks with no nature time, @reneetougas and I were able to steal away for a few hours of fantastic cross-country skiing in the Laurentiens. A new region this time, known as Val-des-Lacs.
Sometimes a trailhead is as beautiful - and more treacherous - than the trail itself. @TheIndianPathCommon is my woods hike nearest-to-home and I usually access 'this' end: car is parked just out of site by the bottom of the photo. Thankfully there wasn't any ice to speak of in the woods and after hugging the left side of the 'ice-slide-road' to access the trail I enjoyed a wonderful hour's walk.
One section of trail was not great for skiing without climbing skins. Thankfully the trail was packed enough that we could carry our skis and go on foot. This is the first time @reneetougas has used her new ski pack for carrying skis, and this was the perfect time to give it a try.
Exploring the region around Montagne Noir near Saint-Donat. Last week we came here for alpine touring and snowboarding. This time we decided to do a loop via cross-country skis.
