Water source on our way to Battell Shelter. Filled up water bottles and did some laundry (socks and underwear) further downstream. Walked a couple hundred years and arrived at the shelter and the main water source, upstream from us, where no doubt others had done something similar recently. Thank goodness for water filters.

Starting day 3. Leaving our campsite north of Lincoln Gap. Destination: Theron Dean Shelter just south of Appalachian Gap, or App Gap as it’s called locally.

@toesalad making our supper. Dehydrated Mashed potatoes with veggies flakes and TVP and a bit of bacon for flavour. Yum. Seriously everything tastes amazing after you hike all day and cook outside.

Happy to be done hiking for the day - 12.9 miles, happy to be sleeping in the woods.

A flattish area off trail is about to become our campsite for the night. We planned for a dry camp on the north side of Lincoln Gap so we lugged water all the way from Cooley glen Shelter, roughly 6 away.

Long way to carry and extra 4 litres of water but there aren’t many water sources through here so you do what you must. @toesalad carried most of it.

Today’s hike from skyline lodge to just past Lincoln Gap had more viewpoints in one day than most other areas we’ve hiked on the Long Trail before. Wonder what it will be like as we keep moving north and hit the higher mountains.

So many mountain ash trees up here even at the higher elevations. Love their bright red berries
