David Logan shelter - @hammerhead packing up and waiting/hoping for a rain shower to quit before we head out - day 14. An entry in the shelter’s logbook warned of an abundance of mice - all the food bags were tied up in the trees so those of us in the shelter escaped- one of the tarp tent dwellers (without an attached floor) didn’t bode as well- yoy!! Poor guy.

Start of day 15 at David Logan Shelter.

The shelter offered cover from the the morning rain though it was a rather dark place. Had to use headlamps in the morning to cook and eat even though outside the shelter was bright green.

Fellow hiker journaling by the campfire. Goodnight day 13. Only 2 more days in the woods. I am looking forward to reconnecting with my kids but not will miss being out here.

David Logan shelter- @reneetougas and her Dad (@hammerhead) built a wonderful fire using dried kindling stacked in the shelter and scrounged for bigger stuff to keep it going till bedtime! What a welcome surprise for the rest of the hikers (like ‘Dragonfly’ and ‘Birch’ ) who ended up in camp - a total of 10 hikers and one dog. (Some tented.)

We splurged on our resupply with 2 small cartons of red wine :) Presentation can be over-rated but @hammerhead preferred drinking from our cooking pot lid over straight up from the carton! Must say, the extra pack weight was worth the addition to our supper.

End of day 13

It was a great day on the trail. First five miles were an absolute breeze, easy hiking. Last 6 or so were more challenging. The trail is not as well maintained as the AT portion; lots of navigating around, under, over and through deadfall, the trail is not as well marked or trodden and is narrower. Felt like we entered new territory. Still, a great hiking day. Overcast, cool no rain.

We arrived at shelter with time and energy to build a fire, plus there was a pile of dry wood in shelter. The fire was a great place to gather for the evening with the 6 other hikers who arrived at the shelter after us.

Arrived at the shelter with lots of time to enjoy and afternoon decaf coffee and read through 2 years of log entries.

Note left by caretaker: close the gate at the front of the shelter when we leave to prevent the porcupines from eating the bunk platforms.

Hiked through a lot of mixed hardwoods today and enjoyed some fall colors and the smell of fallen leaves.

@reneetougas picking raspberries- a surprise treat so late in the season! In the same area @toesalad saw the back end of a black ‘animal’ run into the bush - mmm, I wonder what THAT was?!
