These are the last days of August and the final days of a heat wave. Even on the water it’s hot.

Thankfully, you get to regularly go swimming when you’re canoeing, still a novelty and a treat after years of backpacking.

I’m enjoying these hot days on the water because… water! But also looking forward to the cooler days coming and finally some seasonal nights time temps.

On the water! List making, reserving, shopping, last minute gear purchases, packing and driving - getting out takes so much effort. But then you’re finally there!

Rocky islands are my favorite! One of these days I want to camp on one.

Regular swimming is something I love about summer canoeing!

Lake is also called Lac Commandant (there are multiple papineau lakes in Quebec!)

This was a beautiful lake to canoe with camping potential. However there is no easy way to access to the lake with free parking (that we found).

We paid $35 just to park for the day in an Auberge empty parking area.

This hike is part of the trail system in Saint Donat. It’s an easy and relatively rewarding hike. Coming out in the other side of bug season (we don’t hike in bug season in QC) it’s rewarding to be back in the trails.

We paddled up river so we could enjoy going with the flow on the return trip.

This is the spot where we stopped for a break to enjoy the water.

Water is low this season with a dry spring. We hit a lot of sand bars. Wouldn’t recommend this paddle during the summer (of a dry year).
