Day 52 - Wise Shelter to Trimpi Shelter
20 miles
Our first 20 miler!
We had a full and eventful day, starting in the middle of the night when a mouse landed on my mom while she was sleeping.
We left Wise shelter this morning well rested and ready to hike.
The day was a bit humid but not oppressive.
Around noon we decided to go the hiker feed tonight in Troutdale, so we hiked a decent pace this afternoon to catch a shuttle at Dickey Gap to take us into "town". There is no town here that I can tell, just a cluster of houses.
There were a lot of hikers on the church property, which includes the hostel, shower and bathroom facilities, and a large covered structure for outdoor eating and gathering.
The church served a huge meal and the pastor preached a fairly straight-up gospel message.
I had a free shower (with towels supplied) and felt wonderful.
The YWAM team gave us a ride back to the trail and by this point it was after 7pm. Our plan was to hike the roughly 2 miles to the Bobby's Trail campsite. But we missed it in the dusk and decided to keep hiking the full 4.1 miles to Trimpi shelter.
We put on headlamps and hiked the last part in the dark. We didn't arrive till after 9:30 and we had to set up camp, consisting of three tents, in the dark.
It was a long hike today but everyone was in good spirits anticipating the hiker feed, enjoying the easy terrain and feeling good about conquering our first 20 miler.
