The outdoorsy parts of our week-long working vacation in North Woodstock, New Hampshire (in Franconia Notch). Working and doing life from our friend's condo but squeezing in as much hiking, river swimming, and Appalachian Trail magic as possible. I adore mountain towns, they are my happy place.

Summit of Little Haystack and lunch break. In fact we don’t have a lunch break on hikes. We stop every 45mim to 1 hour and we take a 15 min break and we eat continuously throughout the day this way, little snacks as needed.@mypictograph
Hiking up Falling Waters Trail to Little Haystack Mountain with approx. half the population of New England and southern Quebec. Ok not really but almost. This was the most people I’ve ever seen on one trail!
The crowded trail was a little frustrating (but we’re part of those crowds!) but still worth it.
Turns out I was right about trail popularity. This loop is one of New England's most popular hikes. https://newengland.com/today/travel/new-hampshire/white-mountains/franconia-ridge-loop/ With good reason.
Theoretically we were following a trail, the yellow blaze led us to this water crossing, a distributary of the East Branch of the Pemigewasset river. We’d been having a pretty boring hike up till this point and then things got interesting as we crossed over to a little island and then had to cross back to the shore and rejoin the main trail.
