Our good friend @loon had a multi-hour layover in SFO en route from Japan to Salt Lake City to attend Outdoor Retailer. We met and hiked with @loon on the Appalachian Trail in 2014, he is one of a few really good friends we made while on that journey. Though our visit was brief, it was so nice to see him again. We can't wait to make a trip to Japan and visit him in his cozy mountain cabin.

The loop took us by two beaches. We decided to stop and look at the second one, which to our surprise had a lot of people. Apparently this beach is also easily accessible from a shorter, more direct "superhighway" trail. Sometimes this realization is a little disappointing after working hard to get somewhere. Kind of like climbing a mountain and meeting a bunch of people who got there via a gondola. Nevertheless, the beach was beautiful and a great break stop.

Once we got closer to the shore, we encountered foggy and cooler conditions. We didn't get a lot of coastal views, but the fog was beautiful in it's own way.

Last weekend we explored (by car) a large green space on Google maps along the shore north of San Francisco Bay. I later learned that this area is called Point Reyes National Seashore, a protected wilderness area that almost looks like it is splitting away from the mainland along the San Andreas Fault.

This weekend we decided to return to explore a bit of the area on foot. We picked a 13 mile loop called the Woodward Valley Loop which pomised a variety of terrain including a significant length along the coast.

First day ever packrafting! My new paddle and PFD arrived from Amazon the other day. Thanks to the pacraft loaner from @Hig, I am now able to give this sport a go. This morning, while waiting for the family to get thier act together, I took it out for a spin in Berkeley Marina.

Our home for the next leg of this journey will be a sailboat in a marina in California. In this photo, @mypictograph, @celine, myslelf, and our host are moving Aria from Richmond, CA to Berkeley, CA. Waters in San Francisco bay were a little choppy, but fun.
