Too foggy to climb the fire tower

Last mile up to Stratton Pond Shelter @reneetougas motivating me to keep moving up that peak- that hardest last push to supper and setting up camp!!

New England asters - my favorite fall hiking flower

One mud-slide I couldn’t stop- the landing could have been messier- glad for quick-dry (albeit) dirty shorts!

We see so many mushrooms on the trail: red, yellow and moldy black. This was such a cute colony. Also saw red efts in the trail, those adorable red salamanders.

While we hunkered down at the shelter waiting out the rain, The Long Trail was building on its Ver-Mud reputation. @hammerhead @reneetougas @toesalad are navigating through stepping from rock to log to puddles...sunshine above helps!

Today is wet and rainy, but thankfully not pouring. Vermont is known for its sometimes muddy conditions and this is our first taste. Despite the wetness and less than ideal trail conditions, it is very beautiful. It isn’t cold and the rain has made the colours “pop” in high contrast.
