Crossing the brook on Indian Pass trail. This red trail marker is on a tree in the middle of the brook, assuring us that yes, the trail goes through the water (there were dry rocks to walk on).

Day 1:

My daily foot regimen, that hasn't failed me once over the course of our AT thru-hike: a nightly foot washing, followed by a liberal application of a foot anti-friction cream/moisturizer (in this case, RocketPure Friction Therapy Anti-Chafe Balm), followed by a pair of warm, clean, dry socks - all just before bed.

Day 1:

Having one bear canister between the two of us, the loaner being slightly smaller than the one we brought, proved to be quite a challenge when we had to stuff it full of all food and toiletry products at the end of the first day. When @reneetougas was done with it, there wouldn't have been room to add a single M&M.

Day 1:

In addition to lots of water on the trail, there were also a lot of ladders. Apparently when there isn't a creek to route the trail through, they take it straight up a rock face instead. Those New Yorkers have some interesting trail building ideas :-)

Day 1 Starting our hike at the Adirondack Loj at Heart Lake. Cloudy skies but the rain seems to be stopping. @toesalad and I are as happy as we look to be out in the woods together again.

I am always excited to meet new people on the trail, as everyone seems to have an interesting story to tell. Today we met Anders Morley heading the opposite direction as us along the Indian Pass trail. Anders is a Canadian/American from Kingston Ontario who is on a month-long trek from Kingston to Boston. He started out by canoe and is now finishing his journey on foot.
