Hiking up and over 'Old Blue' was challenging and tiring - very grateful to catch a shuttle into East Andover and spend a night at The Cabin Bunkhouse. Even better (cooler and more fun!) for Cindy and I who jumped into the back first!

A shared experience of grit and resilience with three great hiking girls.

Oh what a feeling to summit Bemis Mountain. Thankful for wild blueberries to munch on along this section of the trail.

Another view of Height of Land. Besides this spectacular view of the Rangeley lakes there's a large parking pullout with historical information of the area - and a park bench for having a snack.

Day 2. Mostly through the woods. Crossed Hiway 17 at noon at ‘Height of Land’ - Rangeley lakes in the background- before descent down and back into the trees. Hiked over Old Blue Mountain to reach Bemis Mtn Lean-to for the night- gratefully finishing a challenging and rewarding 8.3 miles.

It’s cooler hiking in the trees but the views in the open are so beautiful.

Happy place. Back in the woods with my backpack - weighing in around 28 pounds, on the heavy side, but carrying enough dried food for the whole trip.

August 17. Got a shuttle from Bethel, ME to Rte 4: at the trailhead headed to Sabbath Day Pond Lean-to.
