View off the front porch of skylight pond, a fairly shallow affair. Can’t go swimming, at least not with this dry summer and fall. But pretty to look at.

This view is facing east, can’t wait to watch the sunrise tomorrow morning.

Skyline lodge. First night on trail.

We started hiking day one around 12:30, after Morgan dropped us off at Middlebury Gap.

We wanted to ease into it so our destination was Skyline Lodge, a 5 mile hike up maybe 1500 feet to this highly recommended trail Shelter.

For a Saturday night, and a shelter close to a road, we for sure expected more people but it’s just us tonight.

At the start of our hike. Eager and happy to be in the woods together again. And look, we match! My tan hat, his tan shirt. His blue hat, my blue shirt....

At the start of Breadloaf Wilderness, trailhead at Middlebury Gap.

The colours are starting to change.

Parking our car at Smugglers Notch and getting a ride south to Middlebury Gap with a trail angel @toesalad met hiking on the Long Trail earlier this summer.

Morgan picked us up at Smugglers Notch and drove us to Middlebury Gap, where we ended our hike last year with my parents.

Trail people are the best.
