Cross-Country Skiing

So much fun to spend a day on a ski hill with all the kids! What a treat.

After discovering Ski La Reserve on our cross-country ski outings in Saint Donat earlier this year and last year we decided to take the kids skiing here one day this winter.

Our days of seasons family passes are over so it's nice to get a day on the hill together.

Ski La Reserve has a very good price for an afternoon of skiing which makes it really affordable.

The whole family snowboards now, except for me. I'm still on skis, for now.

One of my favorite things about winter in Quebec is going skiing in the woods and stopping in backcountry refuges to warm up. Usually we eat our lunch or at least have tea.

Most have wood burning stoves.

This is a fun cross-country ski area to explore with options for trip length and difficulty.

Today we ventured off 329 (the road to Saint Donat from Ste Agathe des Monts) at Lantier onto the Trois Lacs road.

We started at the P by Lac Tyrol (on the sign) also if you click the map icon on this entry you'll see the exact location of this photo.

This is an easy-access, free cross-country ski area. It's beautiful, with a mix of green and blue trails. It even has a refuge - Refuge de le Dame - where you can stop to warm up or eat lunch.

Highly recommend the area for cross-country skiing.

Part of my winter outings are very local - going skating at Parc Molson in my neighborhood.

I do this throughout the winter as much as I am able given scheduling and conditions. Mid-day is a great time to skate but so to is the evening when it's magical with the lights.

Our first time skiing at Jay Peak.

Without a season's pass this year and our money tied up in one ski hill we have a little more wiggle room to try other places.

We've wanted to ski Jay Peak for a long time. It did not disappoint. Lots more we could have explored here. And so much sous-bois skiing!

When we were driving in we saw where people were skinning up the mountain. I saw the same party at the top of the mountain on our first run. (We waited a long time in the tram line).

Backcounty skiing here looks like lots of fun... another time.

Friday night fun in the city. There's a lot of fresh snow in the neighborhood so I'm headed out for a ski. Not sure that I will be able to ski the whole way from my door so I'm carrying skis for now.

(Turns out I could have skied right from my door. There was enough snow on all the roads, alleys and sidewalks that my skis were fine.)
